Tutorial by Joyce Lawrence
Supplies needed:
Fusible webbing from Lindy's Stamp Gang
OR
Pellon’s
Wonder Under Heavy Weight Fusible Webbing for about $0.85 for 1/4
yard.
Heat gun
Embossing ink
Embossing powder
ink
I’ve been incorporating fusible webbing in my recent layouts.
Fusible webbing is often used in reinforcing and stabilizing
collars and cuffs in the making of shirts and blouses, and it
primarily is an adhesive which resembles a very thin dryer sheet.
I purchase this product from Lindy’s Stamp Gang. You may also
purchase the fusible webbing from a fabric store, and if you do,
the only one that I found that works well is the Pellon’s Wonder
Under Heavy Weight Fusible Webbing for about $0.85 for
one-quarter of a yard. Do not buy the lightweight fusible webbing
because it does not work well. If you use the Pellon Wonder Under
product, you’ll need to separate the webbing from the paper
before you apply your embossing ink, powder, or other ink.
I’ve used this product around borders of pictures, tucked behind
other layers, and even used it to create a body of a mermaid for
a layout I did. It produces a lacy texture. Let me show you one
way to use this product.
Apply your favorite embossing
ink, or a colored ink pad (I prefer using the embossing powder
for better results) on the fusible webbing. Lightly apply a
colored embossing powder on top of the embossing ink. Before
applying your heat gun to the webbing, make sure your heat gun is
warmed up, and then apply the heat to the fusible webbing. Once
the embossing powder is heated, you can see the fusible webbing
start to separate and take on a lacy appearance. If you over heat
the product, it separates even more and becomes difficult to work
with. After you are done, let it cool and simply hand-tear the
product in long strips, or leave it whole to cover larger areas.
You can tear it in any fashion you choose, I just find it’s
easier to work with in long strips. Now you’re ready to apply it
to your page with glue.
Examples:
Made the mermaids body using fusible webbing:
Used copper embossing powder on the fusible webbing around the
edges of the vertical pattern paper below:

I am going to do this soon with a european equivalent of wonder
under, at least I hope it is...I use it to fuse applique shapes to
quilt blocks, so going to see if works... I will use it on the
edges of my Christmas layout if it turns out how I hope it does :)

Here is how mine turned out! Used Lindy's desert moon copper pine
embossing powder, nice gold and green effect! This shows the melted
webbing and it on a card I am doing today...trying to use up my
scraps, put all unused pads away!

Cathi, fabulous work. Love the lacy effect that you achieved. And,
Lindy's stamp company has some of the best embossing powders there
are....they're so smooth, buttery and lots of sparkle.
